Andy Wang Biography:
Taipei-born Andy Wang is a mixed martial artist who excels greatly in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His family owns a Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles, and Wang spent most of his formative years in the particular city. While he was a student at the University of Hawaii, he was a running back for the school’s football team. It was only after graduation that he entered the world of mixed martial arts, and eventually gained interest in Ultimate Fighting Champion through the encouragement of his brother. He is affiliated with Grappling Unlimited and holds a professional record of 8 wins and 6 losses. In 2003, he established his very own MMA school in Taiwan and is presently working on obtaining his master’s degree in history from Cal State Dominguez.
His main purpose in joining SpikeTV’s Ultimate Fighter 5 is to make people see beyond ethnic stereotypes, and at the same time, help other Asian Americans to realize that one need not be an athlete in order to avail of a good education.
