Jamie Lynn Spears made headlines back in December when it was announced that she was 12 weeks pregnant. As she was only 16-years-old when the news was announced, Jamie Lynn's fans and their parents were understandably shocked to learn that the wholesome star of Nickelodeon's
Zoey 101 would soon be an unwed teenage mother.
It's been a rocky road for Jamie Lynn Spears since the announcement. With the fate of
Zoey 101 not entirely clear, the media giving her intense scrutiny, and paparazzi stalking her every move, not to mention all of the issues that come along with a pregnancy, the last seven months can't have been easy. But that chapter of now 17-year-old Jamie Lynn's life ended this morning when she gave birth to a baby girl named Maddie Briann.
Jamie Lynn Spears's big sister Britney was at her side early this morning when the teen star was brought into the Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center. Also at her side were her mother, her father and her brother, as well as Jamie Lynn's fiancé and father of her child, 19-year-old Casey Aldridge. Though Jamie Lynn was reportedly nervous and started to panic when going into labor, her family calmed her down and helped her through. She gave birth via c-section at 9:30am, a few hours after her admittance to the hospital, to 6 lb 10 oz Maddie.
With filming of
Zoey 101's fourth season completed and aired, Jamie Lynn has spent the past several months preparing for the birth with her mother, Lynne, and with Aldridge. Preparations included buying a Louisiana home, putting together a nursery, and attending many baby showers. Unlike big sister Britney, Jamie Lynn seems intent on raising her child in a location much more low key than Los Angeles during at least the next few months.
Having a child so young can't be easy, especially not with the world judging you and photographers following your every movie. Fans of Jamie Lynn can only wish her well as she undertakes this huge, new responsibility of raising a child.
