On the offing for
Twilight star
Robert Pattinson: another role as a star-crossed lover. At least this one wouldn't involve anything close to vampires, like what he did for
Twilight and will do for its three other sequels; this time, it's closer to reality, and he's got a great team behind him.
Summit Entertainment is getting ready to produce
Memoirs, a film based on a script by Will Fetters. Currently being rewritten by Jenny Lumet, the writer of the Oscar-nominated film
Rachel Getting Married, it revolves around two lovers whose budding relationship is threatened by their individual family tragedies. Each will deal with a loss in their families, and together, will end up healing the hurt these have caused. Negotiations are still in their early stages, but provided everything falls through, Pattinson would work with director Allen Coulter, who is also negotiation for the seat.
Now, Coulter's also a big name in the industry. He's only directed one film so far—2006's
Hollywoodland, the Adrien Brody-starrer about the death of television actor George Reeves—but he's received more acclaim for his television work, including six Emmy nominations for his work on the cable dramas
The Sopranos and
Damages.
Provided this falls in place, I wonder how this could go: the film is reportedly set to begin shooting in the fall, and as we all know, Pattinson would have probably just wrapped up shooting
New Moon (which will be released over the Thanksgiving holiday) and is probably getting ready for
Eclipse (which is pegged for a June 2010 release). A part of me wants to see this happen—he can't be stuck being a vampire forever, and I'd very much like to see him do other roles—but would it actually happen? Nothing's sure yet, but here's hoping. This sounds good.
