The Amazing Race is back, baby! As a person who has an extremely poor sense of direction, I am fairly certain that I would reach the finish line just in time for the beginning of next season. So I find teams racing around the globe performing fun (and strange) tasks a delight.

Our host, Phil Keoghan, is meeting the 11 teams in Los Angeles for the start of the race. Which team will take the lead on this first leg of the race? Who has the best chance of winning The Amazing Race and the million dollar prize?

Meet the Teams

Allison "Ally" Mello and Ashley Covert

These 20-something friends are also LA Kings Ice Crew Girls. Both Ally and Ashley look forward to traveling and coming home with some funny stories.

Brandon Squyres and Adam Switzer

These fellows are childhood friends who both rock some long, manly beards. Adam is an eco-friendly farmer, and Brandon is a contractor.

Chester Pitts II and Ephraim Salaam

Chester and Ephraim are friends who both played for the NFL. Chester is a sports anchor, and Ephraim is a co-host on a sports show.

Hoskote Venkatesh and Naina Venkatesh

This father and daughter duo hale from Laguna Niguel, California. Hoskote is an ER physician, and Naina is a fitness instructor.

Jason Case and Amy Diaz

This couple is dating, and hopefully will still be dating after The Amazing Race. Jason is the owner of a snowplow company, and Amy is a social media manager.

Leo Temory and Jamal Zadran

Leo and Jamal are cousins from Los Angeles. Leo is a restaurateur and Adam is the owner of an investment group.

Nicole "Nicky" Getz and Kim De Jesus

These friends have something else in common -- both of their husbands play baseball. Nicky is studying to be a Pilate's instructor, and Kim is a mother and part-time actress and model.

Rowan Joseph and Shane Partlow

These best friends are also business partners. Both Rowan and Shane are actors and producers.

Tim Wiyninger and Daniel "Danny" Merkey

Tim and Danny are best friends from Cordell, Oklahoma. Danny is an oil field operator, and Tim is an oil field plant operator.

Timothy Sweeney and Marie "Reebs" Mazzocchi

Timothy and Marie are exes. Timothy works in sports marketing, and Marie is a gym owner and fitness trainer.

Travis Jasper and Nicole Jasper

This married couple are from Atlanta, Georgia. Both are ER physicians.

And They're Off

The teams meet up in an Old Western movie set. The winner of this first leg of the race will win two Express Passes. The second pass must be given to another team before the end of the fifth leg of the race. With that, the teams grab their backpacks and head to their cars. They make a call and learn that their first destination is Iquique, Chile. All the teams are super excited to be on their way. Danny and Tim stop to ask directions because the freeway is a bit confusing. It's going to be a long trip!

The First Flight Out

Leo and Jamal snag the first tickets, followed by Chester and Ephraim, Rowan and Shane, Tim and Marie, Ally and Ashley, Nicky and Kim, and Nicole and Travis. Brandon and Adam, Jason and Amy, Hoskote and Naina, and Danny and Tim are stuck on the second flight. While waiting for their flights, the two groups get to know each other. One group that has a good vibe already? Leo and Jamal ("the Afghanimals") and Ally and Ashley.

Welcome to Chile

Once they arrive, the teams travel by taxi to Alto Hospicio, where they must find Jarvier, who will give them the next clue. Nicole and Travis grab the first taxi. The clue lets the teams know that this Road Block will require one member to paraglide off the cliffs while their partner follows them. Sounds easy enough, right?

Travis goes up in the glider, and so does Chester. Rowen, Ally and Leo all take to the skies. Kim is terrified, but conquers her fear. Four groups let their taxis leave, and Jamal orders two taxis to take him and Ashley to the beach. Ashley and Marie come upon the taxis first, and Jamal is not pleased.

Rowing Along

Rowan and Shane get the next clue and find out that they are going to Muelle Prat. Travis and Nicole and Chester and Ephraim are hot on their heels. This roadblock entails rowing heavy boats up to fishing vessels and collecting fish. Travis has an early lead and delivers his fish to the fish monger. After completing this challenge, it is on to the Municipal Theatre of Iquique, and the pit stop.

Missing the Clues

Nicole and Travis are the first to arrive, but they take a taxi instead of traveling by foot. They incur a 30 minute penalty because of misreading the clue. Leo discovers that the person who paraglided should be rowing the boat. He screams for his cousin, Jamal, to come back. Wow, those are some serious errors!

And the First to Arrive

Tim and Marie are the first to check in at the Pit Stop and receive the Express Passes. Nicole and Travis claim the second spot, and Shane and Rowan are in third place. Jason and Amy, Hoskote and Naina, Brandon and Adam, and Tim and Danny are lagging behind.

The Last to Arrive

Naina reads the clue wrong and heads out in the boat. By the time they switch places, this father and daughter are the final team to arrive and are eliminated from The Amazing Race.

The Amazing Race airs Sundays at 8pm on CBS.
