Nicole Richie might find herself in the same boat as her The Simple Life co-star and BFF, Paris Hilton.
Police have stated that when they pulled Richie over last year, the 25 year-old was under the influence of alcohol and some unnamed drug. In February, she was charged with a DUI, and during an interview with Ryan Seacrest on the latter’s radio show, Richie said that she is ready to assume responsibility for her actions and to face “whatever consequences” they may bring.

However, she did admit that the possibility of serving some jail time made her “nervous.”
In the same interview, Richie cleared the air and told the American Idol host that she had not undergone any recent rehabilitation, and that the reason why she has been absent from the public’s eye is that she accompanied her boyfriend Joel Madden while his band, Good Charlotte, was on tour.
This is not the first time that Richie has found herself in trouble with the law. Late last year, TMZ.com reported that The Simple Life star had pled no contest to a DUI charge in 2002. If Richie receives a second conviction, she will face up to five consecutive days in a county jail. Additionally, her license will get suspended for one year, and she will have to attend a year and half-long alcohol education program.
Although Richie was not incarcerated after she was convicted of drunk-driving, the court did suspend her license for one year and placed her under a three-year long probationary period. However, only after six months, Richie was again arrested, this time for possession of heroin and driving with a suspended license.
Richie’s legal troubles are not the only things that have made her the center of controversy. In 2005, she and Hilton had a falling out, which prompted them to shoot the fourth season of The Simple Life separately. They reconciled more than a year later.
Her weight has also been under much scrutiny. Since last spring, Richie has been struggling to put on more weight, but has insisted that her inability to do so is not due to any form of eating disorder.
