Ever since show creator Shawn Ryan has decided to make season 7 the final chapter of The Shield, fans have been sadly mulling over how the series would come to a close.  With seven years worth of action, gang violence, corrupt police officers and complex storylines, Ryan was determined to give the show the ending fans deserved.
Yesterday's episode marked the conclusion of the police drama but certainly not the end of Vic Mackey.

If you have yet to watch The Shield finale, stop reading now!

In The Shield finale, cops in the Barn investigated a woman's disappearance and the arrival of a large drug shipment.  Vic (Michael Chiklis) successfully took down the Mexican cartel leader but ended up getting a desk job at ICE.  Vic's ex wife and her children were placed in protective custody at Corrine's request, thinking that Vic will try to hurt her or her family.  On the other hand, Shane (Walton Goggins) decided to kill his pregnant wife and child and then took his own life as well, after learning that Vic already made an immunity deal.  Ronnie (David Rees Snell) got arrested in front of Vic, taking the fall for each crime Vic admitted in his confession.  Moreover, Claudette (CCH Pounder) admitted to Dutch (Jay Karnes) that she's dying and Acevada (Benito Martinez) was suggested to become mayor.  As the show wrapped up, Vic holstered his gun as he walked away from his desk, leaving his fate unknown.

So where was Vic racing off to at the end?  Ryan didn't exactly say where though he did shed light on the nature of Vic's character.

“We've always viewed Vic as a shark.  He's someone who, in order to survive, has to move forward. Is he going to search for his kids?  Is he going to pursue his own sort of police work on his own time? Is he going to do something postal?  I don't know.  But I do think the shark swims forward,” Ryan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

As for Shane Vendrell, Vic former best friend and partner before the strike team was formed, his fate on The Shield finale was something unexpectedly gory yet inevitable, according to Ryan.

“To us, it made sense.  I mean, it wasn't fun to write.  But in terms of the overall arc of the show, it felt like the place it should go,” he explained.

And now that The Shield has wrapped up, fans have only one question on their minds:  Will there be a Shield movie?

“Hollywood is obviously a place that revisits ideas or shows, and maybe that will happen with The Shield.  Maybe not.  But I'd only do it under circumstances in which the quality could remain the same,” he said.
