So you mentioned the Outward Bound experience and bonding with Tyrie. How was that experience overall?
I think I liked going on the Outward Bound more than I liked living down in the house in Denver because we weren’t fighting and there wasn’t all that drunken mess and craziness going on in my life, it was just peace. And it was just really a great job.
Was it uncomfortable with all of the cameras? How long did that take you to get used to?
The very first day I got in the house it was a little nerve-wracking. I remember they followed me walking down the streets in downtown Denver from right in my face and people are looking at me and I’m feeling super self conscious about why I am getting all this attention for the first time in my life. They make a good effort about trying to film you 24 hours a day the first week. I mean they do film you 24 hours a day but for the first week or so they’ll film every little petty thing you do from brushing your teeth to just anything so that you get used to it and you stop being aware. Then as normal things happen you’re not like acting anymore your just sort of living your life because the cameras are no longer really there. So it took about maybe a week for me to stop paying attention to them. But I mean when you’re having a conversation and all of a sudden a cameraman runs up because it’s interesting, you do sort of take note.
So how tough was that on the relationships that you had on the show or the friends that you brought home?
My friends would always freak out when they would come to visit me, they really had a hard time adjusting. I had to like explain how the process works like, you can’t talk to the camera man, you don’t know their name, just ignore them, stuff like that. My friends kind of had a hard time at first. And everyone that was new and outside was just like, what is this life you’re living, you know, it’s so weird.
Do you think that anyone wanted to come to the house for that specific reason, that you guys were being filmed, or do you feel like everyone was pretty genuine?
No, everyone wanted to come to the house for the reason of being filmed; it was really obvious. I’m not naïve. There were some cute guys that I wanted to befriend that would come over to the house merely because they wanted to see what it was like inside and stuff and I was dumb and let them in but I mean, they weren’t bad people.
Can you blame them?
Yeah, exactly, can you blame them? I mean it was a really cool house.
So what about yourself? What about you has changed most since the show, since filming wrapped?
Well, I don’t feel like I’m a completely different person and I guess a good example of that is that I went down to college this past week. I hadn’t seen any of my friends in about 8 months. Everyone was just like, “We were really worried that you’d come back like this Hollywood type of a person or have an ego about it and you haven’t really, you’re still down to earth about it.” And that’s what I’ve tried to do. The biggest thing that’s changed is that people will approach me a lot like, “It’s the Real World kid.” And that’s a little new and kind of hard to handle because you have to be nice to everybody all the time. Sometimes I kind of want to wake up like, not the Real World kid and just walk around and not be the Real World kid. And maybe when the season ends it will be less crazy like that but right now the biggest thing is getting so much attention.
If you were offered, would you go on one of MTV’s Duel or Challenge shows?
Definitely, yeah.
Can we expect any surprises as the season continues?
Yeah, I think that a lot of stuff is about to sort of blow up. There are some pretty big fights that I got into. I mean like you live with people for so long and I’m a very tolerant, loving all type of personalities. Even like Brooke in the woods, people were like “How could you handle that?’ And I think she’s just a great girl. I think by the end of the summer, everyone started to wear on me. I ended up getting to a point where I was not getting along with anybody so they’ll be some pretty big “I hate Davis” moments.
So what’s up next for you?
Well, actually on Friday morning I got asked to come and have an interview with Ford models in New York and so I’m kind of excited about that. I want to kind of dabble in the modeling world. I am torn between starting my life off smart and going back to Georgia and getting a business degree. I mean I graduated with a business degree in college but started working. But also want to move to LA and see what else is offered to me. I’m actually in Los Angeles right now so I’m torn between two passions. I think once the Real World ends, because I travel a lot speaking at colleges about coming out, once it gets less hectic I think I might move out here and just see what it’s like for a year and go to auditions and take acting lessons and things like that.
