Taking a vacation from the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company,
The Office main man
Steve Carell shares some funny anecdotes while filming the spy-themed comedy
Get Smart, with Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Arkin. I n the film, he plays the top analyst of the top secret intelligence agency.
Despite being new to the genre with
Get Smart as his first action film, the star of
The Office said he'll give “action guy” Johnson (
The Mummy Returns,
The Scorpion King) “a run for his money.”
“The action stuff obviously had to be very well choreographed. I'm not an action guy. Clearly, this is not anything I've ever done. But I learned a lot from watching Dwayne because he is an action guy. He's done action movie stuff.
“He's a great person to have a great parameter and I'll think I'll give him a run for his money. I am sure he is regretting the fact that now I'm in the action world.”
Carell then says he thought he was this close to losing his head when filming a fight scene with 7-feet, 4-inches wrestler did not go as planned. “Some people have asked whether he was standing in a box or stilts or platform shoes… He is a physical marvel and extremely nice guy.”
The Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor said his life flashed before his eyes. “And if I didn't duck I would have had my head removed from my body. I would be a torso running around!”
The fighting choreographer, according to Carell, kind of screwed up and they threw punches at the same time. He needed to duck but wasn't prepared for it. Fortunately, he came out unscathed.
Other than Carell,
The Office is also up for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
