He's already Dunder Mifflin Regional Manager Michael Scott on the hit NBC comedy
The Office, and now
Steve Carell is branching out into two other fields: TV production and small business ownership.
Carell, 45, recently bought the Marshfield Hills General Store in Massachusetts, where he and his family spend their summers. The 155-year-old building housing the store is a landmark in Marshfield Hills. And when the building went up for sale early this year, Carell jumped at the chance to help preserve a bit of the community's heritage.
"This is much more of an emotional investment than a business one,” Carell said. “I saw an opportunity to help to preserve a little piece of history. I also felt that places like the Marshfield Hills General Store represent a gathering place, and give people a sense of community. These spots are growing more and more scarce. I hope to keep this particular one alive and well."
Carell's sister-in-law will be the new manager of the General Store, and the
Get Smart actor has even said that he'll be working the cash register and stocking shelves when he's not busy filming.
Carell has also signed a three-year television production deal with Universal Media Studios, the studio behind
The Office. Carell already regularly operates as both a writer and a producer on the show, and is said to be serious about taking on a career as a producer.
