Born on December 19, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois, Jennifer Beals attended Francis W. Parker School and graduated from Yale University where she studied American Literature. As an actress, she appeared in the film Flashdance. Her experience in acting spans over 50 movies, which included The Grudge 2, Runaway Jury, The Feasts of All Saints, Troubled Waters, and The Last Days of Disco, as well as several television shows like My Name is Sarah, A House Divided, and Without Malice.

Beals plays Bette Porter on the television show The L Word. She depicts a character that is a lesbian, who is wealthy, Ivy League-educated and is of mixed race heritage. She is faced with a lot of family issues, struggling with her father’s acceptance of her being a lesbian. As one of the main characters of the show, she gets to be the center of attention. Her inclusion on the controversial series allows her to intensify her acting credits and prolong her exposure to the television loop.
