When NBC announced its plans for the 2012-2013 TV season
, it came along
with 11 new shows, six being launched in the fall. On FOX, however,
there are just five new shows, with only three new ones coming this
fall. But perhaps the lack of quantity will mean an increased focus on

The new fall shows this FOX include the obviously titled The Mob Doctor
and two comedies, the banal Ben and Kate
and the potentially endearing The Mindy Project
.The Mob Doctor (Mondays at 9pm)
Jordana Spiro plays a Chicago doctor who gets mixed up with the mob to help out her brother. The trailer offers some promise, depending on how dark the show is willing to go. If it becomes a gritty show about an anti-hero, it might be worth watching. But if the main character is just a noble, good-hearted person who always makes the right decisions, it probably won't be very interesting.
The Mindy Project (Tuesdays at 9:30pm)
This looks like it could be a perfect companion to New Girl
with its off-beat female protagonist working in a boys' club. Mindy Kaling has been a refreshing joy on NBC's The Office
for eight seasons, but I'll be curious to see if she can support an entire show as well as Zooey Deschanel does.
Ben and Kate (Tuesdays at 8:30pm)
I think we've found our first FOX cancellation of the season, and I fully expect reruns of New Girl to be taking up this time slot by the end of October. It just looks painfully unfunny and forced, and to me it resembles two recently failed FOX comedies: Running Wilde
(overprotective mother, precociously smart daughter and childlike father figure) and Traffic Light
(I think they're even reusing some of this show's old sets).
When you combine the magic of Kevin Williamson (the Scream
films) with the star power of Kevin Bacon, you have a surefire hit. The serial killer angle makes this look like a great film, and I hope it lasts long enough to see where they're going with this cult of serial killers.
The Goodwin Games
It's a real tragedy FOX is holding its two best-looking shows until mid-season. This just looks outrageously off-the-wall with an absurd premise (I love the fourth competitor). I could pull out about 10-20 moments from this trailer that made me laugh out loud.
