Premise: Bella Bloom learns from a fortune teller that if she doesn't get married within one year, she'll be doomed to be single for the rest of her life. Luckily, the man she is supposed to marry is someone whom she has dated in the past. Bella must then reconnect with all of her exes before it's too late.
Elizabeth Reaser, who most recently put in her dues for a guest role on
Grey’s Anatomy as Ava/Rebecca, the pregnant ferry crash victim-turned-crazy person, now gets to have top billing for her own show on CBS,
The Ex List
Reaser plays the successful owner of a flower shop (her character’s name is Bella Bloom, geddit?) who visits a psychic during her sister’s bachelorette party and learns that the man she is supposed to marry is someone she has already dated and broken up with sometime in the past. The only thing is, she has to find him and marry him within the year, or else she’ll be alone for the rest of her life. Although she is skeptical at first, she soon become obsessed with revisiting every single one of her exes in order to find The One.
Bella’s first foray into her past love life comes in the form of Johnny Diamont (guest star Eric Balfour). Back in the day, he was a sensitive, beach-loving songwriter. He’s since evolved into a sexy, badass punk rocker who pleasantly surprises Bella with his sexy badassery. Is he the one she should marry, or is he a mistake she is better off keeping in the past?
Bella is backed up by her close circle of friends. There’s her sister Daphne (Rachel Bloom), her old college classmate Augie (Adam Rothenberg) and his horny girlfriend Vivian (Alexandra Breckenridge, and the sardonic but observant Cyrus (Amir Talai).
The Ex List is the next in the long string of blandly entertaining dramedies featuring a blandly attractive thirtysomethings who long for love. This one is scheduled for the kiss of death time slot of Friday nights at 9pm, so hopefully, it will be euthanized quickly so we won’t have to acknowledge its existence for very much longer.
