Season 13 of
The Bachelor is merely the latest link in the chain of spurned lovers from previous seasons of
The Bachelor or
The Bachelorette coming back to find love after great disappointment.
Brad Womack rejected
DeAnna Pappas who rejected
Jason Mesnick. Let us not forget also the grandmommy of all the rejects,
Trista Rehn Sutter, who spawned the
Bachelorette series, and the only one so far to have had a successful marriage, incidentally. (Jason Mesnick claims that he is happily engaged right now to the woman of his dreams, but I'll believe it if it lasts at least two months after the season ends.)
After a humiliating heartbreak when he lost out to that dippy surfer boy on
The Bachelorette, Jason has rebounded and now finds himself at the center of attention. He has whittled his choices from 25 ladies down to just 15. Some of them seem like dim bulbs, but it's hard to tell just yet. We haven't really gotten to know them, and I'm sure we'll soon find some genuine hearts underneath all the makeup and cleavage.
Last night's season premiere of
The Bachelor was all well and good, but I'm sure what is buzzing on most people's lips is the 30-second preview reel of what's coming up this season. Unbelievably, DeAnna Pappas will be coming back. It's hard to say yet how long she will be back for, and we were only teased with a snippet of Jason's first reaction to her desire for another chance. But one thing's for sure: the other ladies vying for Jason's heart were certainly not happy to see her. I doubt that things will escalate to
Rock of Love-style proportions, but I'm sure we'll get to see some bitch fights soon enough.
It's a brilliant move on the part of the
Bachelor producers to have DeAnna come back; this Bachelorette always seems to be at the center of the drama. I have to wonder whether she really wanted to come back and endure more nationally televised humiliation and groveling, or whether ABC had to do some convincing, but I'm just going to pretend that maybe she really does love Jason after all and sincerely wanted a second chance with him
Wouldn't it be funny, though, if DeAnna ends up being the one engaged to Jason?
