'The Amazing Race 13' Aftergasm: The Peculiar Odyssey of Team Dandrew
Share This Share this
The impossible has happened.  Dan and Andrew, Team Superbad, frat guys, the rhythmically challenged duo, two of the most inept racers on The Amazing Race 13, have made it to the final three and have a good chance to win one million dollars.  Their infinite luck on The Amazing Race has not yet run out, and the fact that they have made it onto the final leg of the season defies any and all logic.  Sometimes, there are results that cannot be explained away using any rational thought.  This is one of those times.  What else can be said?  Anyone watching this season of The Amazing Race knows how many mistakes Dandrew have made on their run, and how many times they have benefited from epic mistakes from other teams allowing their unthinkable passage into the finals.  They have to win the million at this point, right?

Any question as to which team is the best has been answered.  Nick and Starr have tied the record for first place finishes on The Amazing Race, and the siblings have done so in an impressive manner.  They don't make mistakes, they're quick on their feet and have not engaged in one significant intra-team argument.  There is no justice in this world if another team wins the million.  However, the mere fact that Dandrew remain in the race is proof that justice is absent from the race this season.  The fans won't be happy, but I just get the feeling that Dan and Andrew are the team of destiny right now.  Lost in the amazement of Dan and Andrew's advancement tonight is the fact that the duo ran a very good leg, probably their best of the season.  They only messed up once, but that was most likely due to a bad cab driver, and was something they had little control over.

A lot of craziness can happen in the final leg.  No matter how far ahead Nick and Starr are right now, we have to assume that all three teams will be on the same flight to the United States.  When they arrive in Portland, it will come down to cab drivers and the ability to finish challenges.  If there's anything difficult, or anything requiring any modicum of brain power, Nick and Starr will be the heavy favorites.  If the challenges are easy, it's going to be a crapshoot.  And, if it's a crapshoot, Dandrew have a fighting chance.

You just have to feel awful for Toni and Dallas.  They ran a great race up until tonight.  Even before Dallas lost their money and passports, they had run a poor leg.  They might have lost the leg anyway.  However, this will be a mistake that Dallas will never forget.  The final interview with mother and son was quite touching.  Maybe Dallas ends up making in-roads with Starr.  That would be at least be a little consolation prize.

Best in Show

Best Quote: “36.” - Dallas, not even coming close to the correct combination in the book store.

Best Scene:  Dandrew's Speed Bump.  There were a number of great scenes in tonight's episode, but how can you argue with watching Dan and Andrew dancing once more?  Comedy gold.

Best User Comment:
“Once again, Nick and Starr blast their way through a leg while the other teams make stupid and, as seen tonight, game costing mistakes. Personally, I think the dance instructor (during the Speed Bump) was so humiliated by Dan and Andrew's dance moves that she let them off the hook way too easily. She probably feared that everybody would think that those two idiots were really her pupils.”  - CollegeGraduate2, bringing up something I was thinking about during the Speed Bump.  She seemed to give Dandrew their clue earlier than they deserved.  Their dancing looked horrible.
