Monday night's telecast of the second episode of
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles experienced a significant drop in performance compared to the previous night, when the series debuted to record numbers.
On Sunday,
Terminator drew a staggering 18.3 million viewers, lording it over the rest of that evening's field. Its second broadcast was an entirely different picture as the new show lagged behind
Deal or No Deal. NBC's reality game show led the pack at 9pm with 15 million viewers against
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' 10.1 million, eight million fewer than its numbers the night before.
Prior to
Terminator taking off on the boob tube, star
Lena Headey and executive producer James Middleton spoke to the press about the series. One thing that seemed to weigh heavily on the minds of many is the inevitable and inescapable comparison between Headey and Linda Hamilton, who originally brought the character of Sarah Connor to life on the big screen.
"I take from the movies, what is undeniable: Which is her strength, and an instinct, and just an absolute sense of wrong and right that's ingrained in her,” Headey told the press. “And then on top of that, you throw in the unusual circumstance she's in. So I think it's a very potent mix of emotion and depth. Also, I get to be more emotional; you see more of her relationship with John and other human beings, so different in that way. We just come in a different physical wrapping."
"Hopefully people will embrace what I bring to Sarah and kind of see it with fresh eyes," Headey, who became familiar to audiences as the strong and beautiful wife of Leonidas in the smash film,
300, added. "I think [there are] ongoing layers of evolution. I think her relationship with John is reaching new depths. She's learning to be a mother; she's learning what it is to live like this.”
