September isn't just when the major networks bring their shows back with new episodes, it also marks the start of a new season for cable. ABC Family's Switched at Birth and HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Treme have all announced their return dates for this September.

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

Boardwalk Empire will begin season 3 Sunday, September 16 at 9pm on HBO as the characters move on from the deadly finale. The third season of the post-Katrina New Orleans drama Treme will start one week later on September 23 at 10pm.

ABC Family's Switched at Birth begins the third part of its first season on Monday, September 3 at 8pm. Yes, technically this is still the first season. The first 10 episodes aired last summer, the next 12 aired in winter and now the final 10 episodes of the show's 32-episode first season will hit the airwaves.

In addition, Switched at Birth is teaming up with Hyperion to release a special book from the series on August 28. The faux memoir is written by Kathryn Kennish, the character played by Lea Thompson who is writing a book about the switch in the series.

ABC Family will also air a 13-episode marathon of Switched at Birth starting at 7am on September 3 leading up to the return.
