From the University of California, Berkeley Rita continued her studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she took up Italian and French Literature. She graduated at the top of her batch. Aside from her academic accomplishments, Rita has also had the chance to travel around. She became a successful runway model in her native Venezuela, as well as in Mexico, where she spent 11 years, and Los Angeles. She even appeared in a movie called Marked for Death. Rita returned to the United States (minus a husband) in 2003 with her two children. The movie is not the only time that Rita has had a chance to be part of the entertainment industry. She started out as a Ravu tribe member in Survivor: Fiji, the 14th installment in the successful reality series.
