Jared Padalecki, one of the lead actors on the WB series Supernatural, is set to play a role apart from his ghost-chasing character on the paranormal drama. This time, he will be starring in the movie entitled “The Christmas Cottage.”

Padalecki, a 24-year old native of San Antonio, Texas, presently stars as Sam Winchester on the thriller Supernatural. Prior to his inclusion to the series, he appeared in a number of movies and television shows like Gilmore Girls, A Ring of Endless Light, New York Minute and Flight of the Phoenix among others.

In The Christmas Cottage, Padalecki will pay tribute to a famous painter, portraying the still-living artist Thomas Kinkade, who is also known as the “Painter of Light.” The said film centers on what prompted the artist to begin his career after discovering his mother was in danger of losing their family home. It also explores the inspiration behind Kinkade’s painting The Christmas Cottage.

This is actually Padalecki’s second film since his inclusion on Supernatural, he first being the murder mystery film Cry Wolf. Apart from getting a shot to make it big in the big screen, he will also have the advantage of playing Kinkade in a trilogy. Apart from the primary movie, The Christmas Cottage, there will be two more films about the life the American painter.

Distributed by Lionsgate, the upcoming movie is scheduled to begin filming later this month in Vancouver and Whistler. Directed by Michael Campus and written by Ken LaZebnik, the cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, Academy-award winning actress best known for her work in Pollock, as Maryanne Kinkade, and Peter O'Toole, award-winning Irish actor best known for his work in Lawrence of Arabia, as Glen Wessler. The family drama movie is scheduled for release on December 14, 2007.

Meanwhile, fans can catch Jared Padalecki on Supernatural every Thursdays 9/8C on CW.
