Rejoice, fans of quality summer television! USA has renewed its legal series, Suits, for a third season!
, which finishes its second season in January of 2013, will be back with new season 3 episodes at some point next year. USA Network has ordered 16 episodes of the series, matching this season's order.
Thanks to good ratings and an incredibly positive critical reaction, it was always likely that Suits
would get another season. This is especially true on a network like USA that prefers to give all well-performing shows a chance. The renewal of Suits
is actually the fourth show to have a new season announced in recent weeks. Covert Affairs
, White Collar
and Royal Pains
have already been renewed for new seasons.
USA Network co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber offered a very pleased statement along with their renewal of Suits
: "Quite simply, Suits
is as good as it gets. Sophisticated storytelling, sharp dialogue, and award-worthy performances make this show a cornerstone of our original programming lineup."Suits
has done very well for USA. The show, launched in the summer of 2011, became in season 2 the top cable drama of the summer for adults between the ages of 18 and 49. 6.5 million viewers tuned in for the season 2 summer finale.
This character-driven legal drama follows the trials and antics of top Manhattan lawyers at the fictional firm of Pearson Hardman. Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams stars as senior partner Harvey Specter and his associate, Mike Ross, respectively. Much of the action in the show centers around this bizarre relationship -- Harvey hired Mike on a whim, even though the young lawyer doesn't actually have a legal degree. Gina Torres, Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty and Meghan Markle co-star.
Before we can even get to season 3 of Suits
, we of course must finish season 2 -- six new episodes of the series will air in January. Now that we know for sure a new seasons will follow, this is a fact we can truly celebrate.(Images courtesy of USA)
