It's a good news / bad news situation for Suits
fans. The return date for the long running-series has been announced for the back half of season 7 and that's not all. Suits will continue for one more year beyond the current season 7. USA has renewed Suits
for season 8. However the continuation of the show will come with some big changes, mainly the absence of two of its biggest stars.
Suits Star Meghan Markle to Marry Prince Harry in 2018>>>
The cast of Suits
season 8 will include original stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty and Rick Hoffman, They'll be joined by new series regular, Dule Hill. Notably missing from that line-up is, of course, Patrick J. Adams and Megan Markle.
The exits of Adams and Markle has been rumored for some time. Markle, in fact, confirmed her exit shortly after the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry.
Yet even at that time the fate of Patrick J. Adams on the show was left up in the air. With this renewed announcement it's clear, Mike and Rachel are (hopefully) walking off into the sunset. Even if there's not a happy ending for the couple, they'll at least be doing it together.
Aaron Korsh, creator and executive producer of Suits said in a statement of the exit, "I would like to thank Patrick and Meghan for their extraordinary contributions over the last seven years. Not only have they been outstanding in their roles as Mike and Rachel, they are also superb human beings who will always be beloved members of the Suits family, and we wish them well in their days to come."
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter
, Patrick J. Adams talked about his exit from Suits
and explained why he made the decision to move on. Coincidentally, it's not all that different from Megan Markle's own reasons. Adams recently got married to actress Troian Bellisario and he wants to focus on his family life. Adams also believes Mike's story has reached a natural end.
"I started thinking about leaving at the end of the first half of season 6, after Mike was released from prison. From a story point of view, I was a little unsure of what was left for him to do," Adams explained.
"When I looked at the work I was doing, Mike would become a full-fledged, certified, legal on paper lawyer. That's a long way from when we met him and he was this brilliant burnout pothead with no real prospects," Adams continued. "I thought we'd come so far and now Mike is going to work to be a lawyer and he's engaged to the woman of his dreams and he's got the means and opportunity to do whatever he can imagine. I had this voice in my head that said that we've told his story and if he hangs out longer, Mike is just going to be another lawyer on television."
Adams and Markle will continue of the show for the rest of season 7. Yet they will exit the series at the season 7B finale, which will hopefully say a proper goodbye their characters. Then, whether fans are ready or not, Suits will march on for season 8, without the character who really launched the series.
Do you think it's the right move? Should Mike's story end? Is Mike's story ready to end? Will you watch Suits without Mike or Rachel?
