Born January 11, 1972, American film and television actress Amanda Peet grew up in New York with her family. She never considered acting to be in her future until, while studying at Colombia University, she was urged by a professor to try out for a school production. Though graduating with a degree in history, she decided to become an actress after taking the class of acting teacher Uta Hagen. Afterwards, Peet appeared in the off-Broadway revival of
Awake and Sing.
