For the last twelve hours, I've had "My Chick Bad" on continuous repeat in my brain. It was in my head when the
So You Think You Can Dance finale ended, it was in my head as I was brushing my teeth before bed, and it was in my head this morning when I rode the elevator to the BuddyTV office. There is only one person to blame for this: Lauren Froderman. Well...maybe Ludacris, too.
For those of you who didn't know already (all five of you), Lauren
Froderman was crowned "America's Favorite Dancer" last night. In
addition to the shiny new title, she also won a quarter of a million
dollars, a Gatorade print campaign, and a cover spot on
Dance Spirit
Magazine. Oh, and she was consumed in a sea of rainbow confetti.
At home, I was jumping around my dining room in ecstasy over her win
(for those of you who have been following my posts, you probably know
I've been rooting for her.)
In addition to Lauren's win, there were several other moments from last
night's show that I enjoyed immensely. These were the highlights for me:
Alex Wong performs: While he may have been confined to a chair thanks to
his injury, I was beyond giddy to see Alex putting his facial
expressions and hands to maximum use in the Christopher Scott intro routine.
Mary Murphy: The Hot Tamale Train queen showed up. 'Nuff said.
Mia Michaels' video montage: Sometimes Mia Michaels annoys me with her
sparkly headbands and stuffy speeches, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing
all of her made-up words, throat clicks, and verbal vom moments cleverly
edited into one video.
Tyce Diorio's favorite routine: Several judges had to choose their
favorite routine from Season 7, and Tyce chose the NappyTabs creepy
clown routine. Robert and Dominic and their Hammer pants were just as entertaining for me the
second time around.
Adam Shankman's favorite routines: I loved both of Adam's picks last
night. His first choice was Robert Roldan and Allison Holker's
contemporary piece choreographed by Travis Wall (cue waterworks), and
his second choice was--at the risk of prolonging its playtime in my
brain--Lauren Froderman and tWitch Boss' hip-hop routine choreographed by
(who else) NappyTabs.
Ellen and tWitch: Ellen may not have fast feet like Alex Wong, but I
loved her tribute to him nonetheless. She did even better than I
expected (considering who she was dancing next to), and I have no doubts
that she made NappyTabs proud with that fake kick to tWitch's manly
parts--a spoof on Alex's pirouette from the original routine.
