Though the reward for the upcoming season's winner has not yet been revealed, it typically consists of a cash prize and the title of “America's Favorite Dancer.” In the first season, Lazzarini won $100,000 and the use of an apartment overlooking Central Park in New York City for one year. Second season champ Schwimmer won $100,000, a new car and a one-year contract to perform in Celine Dion's show in Las Vegas, while last season's winner Johnson brought home $250,000.
Hosted by Cat Deeley, one of the UK's top television personalities,
So You think You Can Dance follows a mixture of contestants, ranging from unknown street dancers to winners of national championships as they contend for stardom. With nationwide auditions similar to the premise of
American Idol, participants have to work their way through a rigorous audition process, and, over the course of the show, are assigned different dance styles and partners each week to test their versatility.
