Last week I had the pleasure of sitting and chatting with Caitlin Kinney, the latest girl to be eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance.

From the moment she stepped on stage during try-outs, Caitlin made an impression on the judges and America with her expressive dance and explosive tumbling passes. After starting the season strong with a precise and passionate Bollywood routine, Caitlin and her partner Jason were plagued by the "dance hat of death." The couple only danced one routine, their last, in their genre--though Caitlin proved week after week that she could dance just about whatever genre was thrown at her.

During our interview (complete with a few technical difficulties and a goodbye to her family) Caitlin and I discussed the kinship she feels with former So You Think You Can Dance contestants, how hard it was to hear the judges comment on the lack of chemistry with her partner, what it was like to dance in a costume I described as "dominatrix disco unicorn", and her thoughts on joining the So You Think You Can Dance tour.

Listen to my Full Interview with Caitlin Here:

Here are some of the highlights of our interview:

On her Favorite Dances of the Season:

I would have to say my two last week. Either the Foxtrot or the Mandy Moore Lyrical Jazz piece. I loved doing the foxtrot with Tony Meredith. It was just fun and jazzy. And I think working with the choreographer, makes the experience of the piece. And Tony Meredith and Melody were just so  much fun to work with, oh my gosh.

On Her Alien Routine and Costume:

That was definitely a unique costume, that is for sure. I think when he first told me: "okay, so you're going to be an alien, impregnating Jason, the last man on Earth" for a second I thought that he was joking. But it was totally crazy and out there and there was definitely a lot of drama surrounding the costume and whether or not I should wear it and the headpiece. And at the end of the day, when you're a dancer, it's not my vision, I'm dancing someone elses. The piece is totally o ut there and weird and if the costume wasn't it would have been odd, to have a less than crazy costume. And if that's what it took to keep Jason and I out of the bottom three, I will dress up in an alien suit any day.

On the routine she wished she'd danced:

I think the pas de deux that Melissa did. I would have loved to do that, because that's definitely more my background, the classical part. So I was really jealous that she was doing that. She's doing this beautiful amazing pas de deux the week I got to be an alien. So I was a little jealous I'm not going to lie. But she danced it beautifully, so I can't complain.

Regarding the Judges' Comments on her Lack of Chemistry with Jason:

You know, honestly, I think Jason and I were over and over frustrated with those comments. Because of all the couples, we were great friends. We got along really well. We hung out more than any of the other couples. ...So I don't know where that came from. I think my boyfriend was probably happy with that comment to be honest. He's like That's right, they have no chemistry. But as Friends, I think we really did.

On What She's Most Looking Forward to about the So You Think You Can Dance Tour:

Again, hanging out with the people. It's not just the contestants, it's everybody. Everybody who works with the show. I think it will be fun to meet some of the people I've gotten emails and calls from, messages. People who I don't know but who supported me through this process. Because I've gotten such unbelievable support.
