Darryl McDaniels, aka DMC, might want to put a call in to his former bandmate and friend,
Reverend Joseph “Run” Simmons. After all, the reverend is probably tight with the big guy upstairs. McDaniels was admitted to a hospital in New Jersey where he will undergo surgery for two serious blood clots. He has already pulled out of his upcoming scheduled appearances in order to take time to rest and recuperate. McDaniels had been complaining of pain and swelling in his left arm. When he consulted with doctors, they immediately sent him to the hospital to be treated.
If there was every time to bring back two friends who have grown apart, it’s now. DMC and Run had their falling out in the late 90s after disagreeing on which direction to take their group. McDaniels was looking to go with a softer, mellow sound to suit the depressed mood he had been in for quite some time while Simmons was insistent that they keep the hard hitting sound that Run-D.M.C. was known for. The band did retire, but because of the untimely death of their group member, Jam-Master Jay, in 2002.
McDaniel’s condition is serious and it is unclear how long it will take the music star to fully recuperate. Just last week, he appeared and performed at Massachussetts' Becket Bowl, a fundraising event benefiting the Josh Beckett Foundation, which supports community programs that improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged kids. He also performed at the event.
Prior to entering the hospital, McDaniels was working on an autobiography focused around his time in Run-D.M.C. as well as a solo album. Run-D.M.C. has seen a resurgence in their popularity with the recent release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which features songs by the rap group such as “King of Rock” and, of course, “Walk This Way”.
