Ted Allen has become a familiar face to millions through his work on
Queer Eye and
Top Chef. Through his role on
Queer Eye, he has helped bridged the gap for many of their clueless subjects (and no doubt some of the home viewers who might feel equally clueless) about food and entertaining.
If your area of weakness is wine knowledge, you have ever wished you could have your own Ted Allen cram session before an important party or event, you now have a new resource to turn to. His PBS Series “Uncorked! Wine Made Simple” is being released on DVD this fall.

I wonder how well suited this is to the complete wine newbie? It sounds like it doesn't presume an understa...
The show was a six-part series on PBS, and will be a three-part DVD. The
Queer Eye Fab Five member acts as narrator for the series.
Ted said, “People still seem to think they aren't good enoug h to enjoy wine or think that it takes years of education to be able to simply pick a bottle off the shelf…This simply isn't the case, and ‘Uncorked' helps take away the intimidation and mystery behind something that everyone should be able to enjoy.”
The show takes the viewer through wine tasting in the first disc, then takes the viewer through California and French wine production in the later discs. The aim of the show is to make the process of appreciating wine simpler and more accessible. It does this by first educating the viewer on the selection and tasting process. Then, by taking the viewer through the wine-making process, it demystifies and humanizes the world of wine.
One of the more interesting pieces from the series focuses on a pivotal moment for the California wine industry. A blind tasting in Paris pitted French wines against California ones, and although nearly everyone expected a complete blow out in favor of the French, the French wine experts themselves gave the best ratings to the California wines. The incident helps show that good wine doesn't necessarily mean a fancy pedigree.
So while you might not have access to the Fab Five from
Queer Eye much longer, you can, at least, take home a little Ted.
