Private Practice may not be getting much buzz as its mother ship series
Grey's Anatomy but it has certainly pulled enough ratings for ABC to grant the sophomore drama a back-nine order. This renewal marks the latest network series to get a full-season pickup, following NBC's
Knight Rider and
Chuck, CBS'
The Mentalist, FOX's
Fringe and
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and CW's
90210.
When
Private Practice kicked off on September 26, 2007, the medical drama raised a few doubtful eyebrows as some critics panned the show as a letdown from its predecessor,
Grey's Anatomy, from which the character of Addison Montgomery originated. Gradually, though, the show attracted a solid fan base that has sustained its hype every Wednesday night in between airings of
Dancing with the Stars and
Dirty Sexy Money.
Soon, the series that chronicles the life of Dr. Addison Montgomery as she leaves Seattle Grace Hospital for Los Angeles in order to join a private practice was renewed for second season, along with fellow freshmen series
Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who?, and
Dirty Sexy Money. Despite earning significantly low rating compared to its pilot season premiere, and though it has only aired two episodes since it started its second season on October 1,
Private Practice has been renewed for yet another season just yesterday.
Meanwhile, fans can catch a new episode of
Private Practice tonight at 9pm. In tonight's installment called "Nothing to Talk About," Charlotte attempts to lure Addison to St. Ambrose Hospital with promises of surgeries, while Addison and Kevin's relationship heats up. At the same time, Sam doubts his ability to save Oceanside Wellness from financial wreck and Pete's firefighter patient suffers an unusual form of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Private Practice stars
Kate Walsh as Addison Forbes Montgomery,
Amy Brenneman as Violet Turner,
Audra McDonald as Naomi Bennett,
Chris Lowell as William "Dell" Cooper,
KaDee Strickland as Charlotte King,
Paul Adelstein as Cooper Freedman,
Taye Diggs as Sam Bennett and
Tim Daly as Peter Finch.
