Silas Weir Mitchell played Charles Patoshik on the television series
Prison Break. His character was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder with bipolar tendencies and was committed to the Psychiatric Ward of Fox River State Penitentiary where he earned the nickname “Haywire.” He became a temporary cellmate of Michael Scofield (
Wentworth Miller) who was obsessed with his tattoos and was later included in Michael's plans to break out of prison. Although he managed to keep a low profile during the aftermath of the escape, Haywire ended his life by jumping down from a grain mill after being pursued by Brad Bellick (
Wade Williams) and FBI Agent Alexander Mahone (
William Fichtner), making him the third fugitive to go down among the eight Fox River escapees. Later this year, he'll be putting his flair for depicting disturbing characters to use with his upcoming crime-thriller movie.
In the movie
Wisteria: The Story of Albert Fish, the former
Prison Break actor will be featured as Albert Fish, Jr. in a shocking story about a monstrous serial killer in the history of true crime. Expected to hit the theaters before the year ends, the film also stars Patrick Bauchau (
Carnivàle) as the older Albert Fish and Jack Conley (
Angel) as Detective Will King.
Despite being a versatile actor, Silas Weir Mitchell remains to be associated with unstable roles. Aside from
Prison Break, he is also known for playing a crazy prisoner named Donny Jones, a recurring role on
My Name is Earl.
