Phillip Phillips recorded his album in just three weeks. But if the 60-second previews of each song are any indication, it didn't diminished the quality at all. With his own album set to drop early next year, Jason Castro has released a music video for "Only A Mountain." Brooke White wants to get us into the holiday spirit with new Christmas music. And an X Factor
contestant took on the great Kelly Clarkson with her most well-known hit. Did the risk pay off? Read on to find out.Preview Phillip Phillips' Debut Album
We're just over two weeks away from the launch of Phillip Phillips' first album, The World from the Side of the Moon
(out November 19). And if you're still not sure if you want to buy it, 60-second preview clips of all 12 songs from the standard edition are available to listen to online. Just based on these teasers, it's obvious that Phillip hasn't strayed away from his musical roots that fans loved to hear from him on American Idol
. It has a very singer-songwriter feel to it, while also maintaining some of that commercial edge that record labels expect.
With the quality coming out of these songs, can you believe that this album was recorded in three weeks? But even though he's shocked he made the deadline, Phillip says
, "I think it was the best to have a really short amount of time, because we didn't overanalyze things. I didn't want to overproduce anything, anyway. I didn't want to do anything that I couldn't perform live; I really wanted to keep it raw. So it was an awesome experience, having to get everything done that fast and learning so much in such a short amount of time."
Jason Castro's "Only A Mountain" Music Video
After releasing his debut album and multiple EPs, Jason Castro is gearing up for his first full-length album from Word Entertainment, due out January 15, 2013. That launch includes a new music video for his single, "Only A Mountain" (which was also featured on his Starting Line
EP). The video, which you can watch below, is not extravagant; rather, it's simple and focuses mainly on Jason performing the song, which perfectly captures his laidback nature, both as a person and as a musician.
Around the time of his album release, he'll be taking part
in Winter Jam 2013: "I could not be more excited to simultaneously announce my brand-new music video, 'Only A Mountain,' alongside the news that I will be a part of Winter Jam 2013 with TobyMac, RED, Sidewalk Prophets, Jamie Grace and others. It is such an exciting time for me as I journey toward the release of my new album and I am so glad to be able to share it all with you!" The tour begins January 4 and runs until March 30, with 44 stops along the way.
Brooke White to Release Christmas Album

X Factor's David Correy Performs Kelly Clarkson Hit
If you tuned in to The X Factor
live results show last night, you saw eight semifinalists singing for survival as the judges announced their decisions on who would make up the Top 12. In L.A. Reid's category, David Correy and Jason Brock went head to head for the remaining spot in the Over 25s. David took on a Kelly Clarkson song. But if that wasn't gutsy enough, he came out with a stripped down version of her massive hit "Since U Been Gone."
Afterwards when the other three judges gave their input, Britney loved it. But Demi thought he was screaming the whole time, and Simon felt it was a bit melodramatic (though to his credit, he could tell how much this meant to David).
I'm usually critical of contestants taking on Idol
songs, but I felt the emotion come through, and his voice was both powerful and smooth at the same time. Unfortunately, L.A. Reid sided with Britney and Simon and chose Jason Brock over David. I wonder if the record executive will face any backlash
, as fans feel like he chose the wrong person.
