Showtime Reveals Spring Premiere Dates, Two New Series and 'Penny Dreadful' Trailer

Showtime has announced the premiere dates for two returning shows, including Nurse Jackie and the last season of Californication and two new shows, Years of Living Dangerously and Penny Dreadful. In addition, the channel has picked up two additional series that will air later this year.


Nurse Jackie's sixth season begins Sunday, April 13 at 9pm, followed by the seventh and final season of David Duchovney's Californication at 9:30pm. The last season see's Duchovney's Hank Moody join the writing staff of a TV show based on one of his failed movie projects, Santa Monica Cop. It will feature Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24).

Years of Living Dangerously also premieres April 13 at 10pm. It's a documentary series that focuses on different aspects of climate change with a celebrity correspondent who shares one of their passion projects with the audience from around the world. 

The correspondents are Jessica Alba, Mark Bittman, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, America Ferrera, Harrison Ford, Thomas Friedman, Michael C. Hall, Chris Hayes, Olivia Munn, Dr. M. Sanjayan, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ian Somerhalder and Lesley Stahl. 

Penny Dreadful premieres on May 11. It's a horror drama which explores the lives of the most famous terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula over an 8-episode season 1. Check out the trailer below.

The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Timothy Dalton (License to Kill), Eva Green (Camelot), Reeve Carney (Spider-Man, the musical), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger) and Danny Sapani (The Bill).



In addition, Showtime has picked up two new series, including The Affair and Happyish which will premiere later in 2014.

The Affair explores emotional effects of an affair on two couples from both the male and female perspectives. The series stars Dominic West (The Wire) Ruth Wilson (Luther), Maura Tierney (ER) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe).

Happyish is a comedy starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as Thom Payne about a 42-year-old man struggling with having bosses nearly half his age. The series also stars Kathryn Hahn as Thom's wife.
