Kay was scheming against her crush Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald and their cousin, Charity Standish, while Jessica was supportive of them. At times, she even foiled Kay's plans of separating the lovers. Jessica also harbored secret feelings for Reese, who liked Kay. After her parents' marriage ended, she became very distraught and got involved with Spike Lester, who influenced her to do drugs and engage in prostitution.
