One Tree Hill: Why Did Lucas and Peyton Break Up?
One Tree Hill: Why Did Lucas and Peyton Break Up?
There's one important mystery that fans of One Tree Hill have been speculating about since the beginning of season 5:  what destroyed the relationship between Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton?  When we last saw the duo in season 4, they had finally gotten together and things were going strong.  Now that it's four years later, they're broken apart and Lucas is dating his book editor, Lindsey.  There are a lot of things in that four year gap between seasons that fans are wondering about, but this is one question they'll soon get an answer to.  According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, the real reason behind the break up will be revealed in the February 5 episode, entitled "Don't Dream It's Over."

Though we don't know the reason behind the break up, it's been revealed that it'll come spilling out when Lucas and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) have a major argument.  As for what that argument will be about, I wonder if it'll involve Peyton's ongoing flirtation with the sexy bartender that she met in last night's episode.  Lucas was noticeably jealous of the guy, and if he continues to act like he did when he saw them together it's quite possible it could lead to a blow up between the two.

Of course it's never too early to speculate as to why Lucas and Peyton broke up between seasons.  It's possible that Peyton chose to stay permanently in Los Angeles to pursue her career in the music business, but that hardly seems juicy enough.  Did one of them sleep with someone else?  Did Lucas have to be a bit of a hooker to get his first book published?  Did Peyton have to unbutton one too many buttons to get a job at a major recording company?  We'll know for sure in just a couple of weeks.

Until then, I plan to come up with as many outlandish theories as possible regarding their doomed love affair. After all, this is One Tree Hill, where nothing is ever as innocent as it seems.
