Kevin Federline Begins Stint on 'One Tree Hill' Tomorrow Night
Tomorrow night on One Tree Hill, Kevin Federline will begin his three-episode arc as Jason, the cocky, enigmatic wannabe rock star who Peyton (Hilarie Burton) hopes to sign to her new record label.  Considering his lack of musical talent and dearth of acting experience, one has to wonder what Federline could possibly add to such a tight-knit ensemble cast.  In fact, one has to wonder if there's a person in America who actually wants to see Federline on the hit drama, aside from those who long to fulfill a demented curiosity factor.  However, though no one has asked for more K-Fed on our television screens, the mastermind behind "Popozao" will be acting his heart out in "My Way Home Is Through You," airing tomorrow night at 9pm on the CW.

I certainly have nothing against Kevin Federline.  I've never seen the guy act, and though he doesn't seem like the most intriguing and complex of our modern day celebrities, he's at least a much better parent than Britney Spears.  However, what I object to is stunt casting, which is obviously all that Federline's appearance on the show amounts to.  Though creator Mark Schwahn has stated that he hired K-Fed due to his acting talent and not his name recognition, I find that hard to believe.  No matter how good he is, Federline's appearance will be a distraction from everything else that is happening in the series.

This is something that One Tree Hill has done before, most notably with the appearance of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz in season 3.  He played himself and ended up as a romantic interest for Peyton for a short time.  He did a fine job on the show, but again the problem was that his appearance was a distraction from the rest of the series.  I'd much rather see interactions between experienced actors like Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush, rather than sitting through recognizable non-actors from the music industry.  These guest stars may bring a few new viewers to the series, but I'd rather people start watching because they're intrigued by the storylines, not because they want to see if a musician can act.

However, maybe I'll be proven wrong.  I have a feeling that Kevin Federline's appearance will either surprise us all or be so insignificant that all of the hype was for nothing.  We'll know for sure tomorrow, after "My Way Home Is Through You" shows us the next chapter in the lives of the Tree Hill gang.  If you can't wait until then, here is a glimpse of K-Fed assaulting our eardrums while performing at Tric:
