I now have new respect for Max Greenfield, the actor who plays Schmidt on Fox's new comedy New Girl. Schmidt has quickly become the standout comedian on the show, providing the most and biggest laughs thanks to his odd pronunciation of words ("chut-e-ney" is still my favorite) and his character's combination of unabashed douche-ry and type-A idiosyncrasies. Now, in response to a DVD cover featuring Schmidt as a fitness guru, Greenfield has put together a video that proves he can be just as funny on the fly, alone, teaching a spin class. Watch the awesome clip below:

The premise of the clip includes a shout-out to Coach, the original third roommate played by Damon Wayans, Jr. before he was replaced by Lamorne Morris' Winston. Coach (a fitness instructor) has asked Schmidt to sub a spin class, to which he has enthusiastically agreed. The video shows Schmidt fervently spinning away in some tight biker shorts (though I feel like Schmidt would lose the tank top, given his tendency to strip at random times), shouting to an empty room of bikes things like "Beautiful, you guys! Yeah!" Of course it wouldn't be Schmidt without some interesting word play, and thankfully we get to hear Schmidt articulate the words "amateur" and "quad-ominant." He also confuses "tremble" and "treble" when describing his quads and stresses the importance of his "pupils."

Perhaps the best thing about Schmidt is his zeal for life. Though he is clearly instructing no one, he is still as "happy as a clam" when he's on that bike and continues to cycle furiously regardless. We all know spinning is no picnic, but with an instructor like Schmidt, I might be persuaded to actually take a class. So long as he talks about "the rhythm of the music meeting the rhythm of your heart in the form of stationary bicycle riding."

What do you all think of the video? Were you as delighted to see more of Schmidt as I was?
