NCIS fans have been buzzing for the last 24 hours on Twitter about the return of Mike Franks (played by Muse Watson) for the season 10 finale. But is the news of Franks' return really true? Have the prayers of many an NCIS fan been answered? The answer is: Yes!

Update: This article generated a conversation with Mr. Watson himself and after chatting with him via Twitter, I have some more news. First up, all tweets from Watson's manager from yesterday are missing, not just Watson's announcement, so there's no need to assume that the missing tweet means that anything has changed in regards to Watson's appearance in the NCIS season finale. Secondly, he confirmed to me personally that Franks will indeed be back, and that's good enough for me. Oh and finally, yes, he is indeed as awesome as we all thought.
I myself follow Muse Watson on Twitter
, but I somehow missed his announcement yesterday. Once I saw the congratulatory tweets (most of which were in my feed due to being retweeted by Watson himself), I started looking for the official announcement. But, as hard as I tried, I cannot find any official news of Watson's return to NCIS
-- at least not yet. That's not to say it's not true, just that it doesn't seem to have been announced by CBS or any major news outlet as of yet.
So far, the only announcements have been from Watson himself, on both Twitter and Facebook.
Here's the brief announcement Watson posted on his Facebook page
Next, we see that SpoilerTV
posted a tweet from Watson's manager (I also found an image of the tweet on what appears to be a Muse Watson fanpage on Twitter). However, when I tried to find the tweet itself, it seemed to have disappeared from Watson's manager's page.
The first tweet from Watson about Mike Franks' return was in fact a response to a congratulatory fan. I could find no actual announcement that Watson made on Twitter.
What does this all mean? Is Watson really coming back as Mike Franks for the NCIS season 10 finale? Well, Gibbs always trusts his gut so I think I'm going to go with mine on this one. I think that he will indeed be on the show, but that perhaps Watson, in all his excitement, shared the news a tad early and that's why it hasn't been officially announced yet. But who can blame him? News that Mike Franks is returning to the show is HUGE!
Now that I've gone out on a limb to say that I think Mike Franks will definitely be back, it's time to start theorizing on the why's and the how's. With Franks sadly killed off a couple of season ago, there are one or two ways his return can go: either flashback or fantasy.
We've already seen Franks return in fantasy form in last season's episode "Life Before His Eyes," but I still think there's a strong possibility that he could appear that way in this season's finale. As to why Gibbs (if it is Gibbs) might be seeing his old friend again, I have no clue. But it's also entirely possible that we could see Franks in flashback, perhaps to some previously unknown case that he came back to D.C. for (if the flashback only goes back a couple seasons), or for a case that he and Gibbs worked when Gibbs was still a Probie.
What do you think NCIS fans? Will Mike Franks be back for the season 10 finale and if so, what are your theories on why he will return?
NCIS airs on Tuesday nights at 8pm on CBS.
