fans rallied to complain in the aftermath of the news that Cote de Pablo won't be returning
for the show's season 11. At the CBS Television Critics Association Press Day today, Les Moonves, CEO and President of CBS Corporation, addressed the issue and said they didn't want to see her go.
"We offered Cote de Pablo a lot of money, then we offered her even more money," Moonves said. "We really didn't want to lose her, we love her. We think she's terrific. We obviously were in discussions and ultimately she decided she didn't want to do the show. It was her decision."
He continued, "We don't like losing anybody. We did everything humanly possible and we exhausted every opportunity. Ultimately she decided she didn't want to do the show."
de Pablo joined NCIS
as Ziva David, a Mossad Officer, in season 3 to replace Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander) who was assassinated by Ziva's half-brother, Ari. Through an international partnership, she became a liaison with NCIS and later became an official NCIS agent.
After joining NCIS, Ziva and Tony's (Michael Weatherly) relationship grew to a point that many fans clamored for them to become a romantic couple. With de Pablo's exit, a happy ending for "Tiva" seems unlikely.
It was previously announced that de Pablo will appear in the season 11 premiere to bring Ziva's storyline to a conclusion.
NCIS returns on September 24 at 8pm ET on CBS.
