After the modern 90210 reboot, the CW is bringing yet another 90s series.  The almost iconic Melrose Place, set in a Hollywood apartment complex, ran for six years from 1992 to 1998, an offshoot of the Beverly Hills, 90210 original series. Smallville producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer helmed the pilot script and are slated to take on the reins as executive producers.

In launching Melrose Place in early 2009, CW entertainment bigwig Dawn Ostroff said the reboot will try to capture life in the Melrose neighborhood, unlike the original series. When the pilot was greenlit in late February, Melrose Place followed the same formula: following a group of Los Angeles-based twenty-something's. Filming commenced mid-April, with the CW officially picking the series up on May 19.  During the launch, pictures of the new cast were released, which included Laura Leighton, who is part of the original Melrose Place.  A revelation that her character Sydney Andrews is set to die in the first act of the series received generally negative reactions. She is reportedly playing landlady to the new tenants.

Among the Melrose Place residents include Swingtown star Michael Rady, who'll play 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller; Supernatural's Katie Cassidy, who'll appear as sharp-tongued bisexual publicist Ella Simms; singer Ashley Simpson-Wentz, who'll be Violet Foster, a small town girl who comes to Los Angeles with a secret; and Cloverfield's Jessica Lucas, who'll play elementary school teacher Riley Richmond. Heather Locklear decided not to reprise her role as there was no way to bring her back that made sense, her rep said.

Completing the cast are former model Colin Egglesfield as surfer-chef Auggie Kirtpatrick, Terminator's Stephanie Jacobson as UCLA med student and call girl Lauren Yang, and Shaun Sipos, Jake Hanson's son from the original Melrose Place David.
