As Medium returns tonight on NBC, Allison (Patricia Arquette) dreams about and eventually meets a quirky bank teller named Mrs. Boddicker who predicted a recent robbery at the bank she works for. Elsewhere, Joe's (Jake Weber) new job in San Diego is understandably putting a strain on the family and it's up to Alison to learn to cope in his absence.
On the last episode of the supernatural drama, Cynthia Keener (Anjelica Houston) returned and asked Allison for help to find a missing friend of hers. She was also asked by a real estate mogul to help find his missing wife. In the meantime, Joe struggled with the decision when offered a position that required a move to San Diego, but eventually accepted the offer.
NBC initially renewed
Medium for an "abridged" sixth season early this month after a slight decline in the ratings for its fifth season. Within a week of negotiations, however, the talks stalled over episode count, and NBC decided to not renew
Medium altogether, despite the fact that it outperforms some shows that the peacock network picked up previously.
Within 24 hours of the cancellation, CBS took over and opted to renew the series for a sixth season (CBS Television Studios produces the series). CBS placed it in its 9pm Friday slot, right smack in the middle of
Ghost Whisperer and
Numb3rs.
From a high of a 13.9 million average per episode during its rookie season,
Medium saw a steady decline in its ratings and for its fifth and final season with NBC so far, the drama reels in an average of 8.4 million viewers per episode.
