The company sponsoring the science camp teenage Locke’s teacher tried to get him to attend, Mittelos Laboratories, was the same corporation Richard Alpert convinced Juliet to join in Portland. The interesting thing is that while Alpert turned John down as a child, it seems as though he later tried to recruit Locke, indicating that he’d made a mistake the first time around. Either this means something on the island changed in the meantime, or the knife really does belong to Locke.
