'Lost' News Update: Homages, Cursing, and Rodriguez
Thursday, October 11, 2007

Lost Season 4The past week has seen a sudden surge of Lost related news, even if it is not directly related to the show.  Following a week where there were arguably four Lost homages on different networks, news of former cast members being sentenced to jail time, reels of spoiler footage being aired on the Hawaiian news, and a particularly foul mouthed – but jolly – auteur surprisingly exposing his love of the island drama in extremely colorful language all dominated this weeks entertainment press.

Lost
seemed to be on literally everyone's mind during the first few weeks of the fall TV season.  First, there was the notable mention of the ill-fated Oceanic Flight 815 on NBC's Chuck, then Lost actor Kevin Tighe who plays Locke's father Anthony Cooper, played a character named Cooper on Law & Order: SVU.  Some of Lost's mystical numbers appeared on the clap board during Caveman's closing credits, and Jerry Seinfeld said he liked the show on 30 Rock.

In the mainstream, Jeff Jensen from Entertainment Weekly spoke with director Kevin Smith, who has been extremely active in the TV world this season directing the pilot for Reaper, writing and apparently directing an episode of Heroes: Origins, and nearly directing an episode of Battlestar Galactica.  In his typical fashion, Smith's praise came seasoned with an entrée of profanity. ''Who gives a f--- about the polar bear, who gives a f--- about the smoke monster, any of that — all the f---ing sci-fi weirdness just took a backseat to, like, 'Holy s---! Why did Jack and Kate stop being friends?'' Smith said, regarding the Lost season 3 finale.

Former Lost actress Michelle Rodriguez made headlines again this week when an LA judge sentenced the actress to 180 days in prison for violating parole.  The violation occurred during filming of Lost's second season.

SPOILER WARNING:  The usually discrete Hawaiian media got into the business of Lost spoiling last week by running a reel filmed outside a shooting location and describing it as a Los Angeles courtroom.  Fans of the series had no trouble at all determining that the scene involved Kate's trial.
