Christa Brooke Camille Shields was born on May 31, 1965 in New York. She began as a child model in the 1970's and by age fourteen she became the youngest fashion model to appear on the cover of the top fashion publication Vogue. When she turned fifteen, she appeared in a controversial print and TV advertisement for Calvin Klein jeans which included her saying the famous tagline “Do you wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” Due to her career as a controversial child actress and a provocative fashion model, Shields became one of the most recognizable faces in the world when she was only sixteen years old. In 1978, her film career began, starting with her appearance on Lous Malle's Pretty Baby, where she played a child living in a brothel. Due to the numerous nude scenes in the film, and being that Shields was only eleven when it was shot, questions arose about child pornography. Her next film was a slightly less controversial and less notable film, Wanda Nevada, which came about in 1979. She then continued on to do more movies, and by 1981, she won her first People's Choice Award for Favorite Young Performer, an award she won for the next three consecutive years. In 1983, she stopped acting to go to college at Princeton University where she graduated with a degree in French literature. She has appeared on numerous on-stage productions and musical revivals such as Grease, Cabaret, Wonderful Town and Chicago on Broadway. Her television appearances include those in the sitcom Suddenly Susan, which was one of her most successful on primetime. She also appeared as a guest on That '70s Show where she played Mrs. Burkhart, Jackie's mother, Nip/Tuck and Two and a Half Men. In 2007, Shields was cast for a role on Lipstick Jungle, a new series from NBC.
