"You are so
Days of Our Lives, I'm going to have to start tuning in at one to watch you," Alice tells Cate (Shiri Appleby) on this episode of
Life Unexpected. And we know exactly what she meant. Only one little thing: we want Alice to shut up and just strangle Cate, who has turned into the type of soap character whose web of lies has caught up with her and there is no way out. Serves her right? Absolutely.
And she actually has the nerve to invoke her biological tie to Lux to convince Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) to drop out of the Hands on a Hybrid contest? And she insists that she is being honest to Ryan (Kerr Smith), who thankfully gives her a whipping flash of the obvious: "Because you got caught!" What a total *expletive*, that Cate is.
Don't forget to catch:
'Unexpected' Renewal for 'LUX'? CW Prez Sounds OffAlthough we do feel sorry for her, kind of, at the end of "Crisis Unaverted" when she's left alone eating ice cream. OK, not really.
To think that Cate had several chances to come clean take ownership of all the things she did, but she chose to maximize the drama and wait at the most inopportune time. As for us, we have seen enough rom-coms and dramas to know that these are the things that blow up to your face when you least expect them. Like, say, finally coming clean to your model boyfriend thinking he knows your dirty little secret when he doesn't.
"I'm not just leaving the contest. I'm leaving you," Ryan tells Cate. Youch! This ought to bring more people to Team Ryan, but maybe not for Cate.
On the Lux (Britt Robertson) side of things, news of Tash moving three hours away has her dutiful best friend alarmed. So she goes out to search for Tash's mom in an attempt to, in short, give her the life that she got after finding Cate and Baze. "Maybe she's been waiting for you all this time?" Lux suggests to Tash. I seriously wouldn't count on that, dears.
And then we meet Natasha's mom, who is a total Dr. Evil to her Mini-me. Bad news, however, as while Mrs. Tasha seems gracious at the door, she totally rejects her daughter because Tash can bring up unwanted memories. Harsh. And it gets worse for Lux, because when she goes to mommy dearest for comfort, Cate is too messed up and preoccupied with personal stuff to mind her. As if that isn't bad enough, the social worker has allowed Lux to stay with Baze.
What can we say. It's a 1-2-3-4 punch for Cate, but what can you do? You reap what you sow, or some other karma-inspire idiom. Sometimes, when you aspire to get everything, sometimes you end up with nothing; or else red wine and ice cream.
