Now that can't be the
series finale, can it?
The big
Life Unexpected finale did air tonight, still with nary a word on whether it will return for a second season. In a not so unexpected turn of events, there was indeed a wedding, a predictably delayed bursting-through-the-door sequence and just a lot of talk before the big date.
Which Life Unexpected Character Are You? Despite all the doubts and questions, mostly involving Baze (Kristoffer Polaha), Cate (Shiri Appleby) still decided to push through with her wedding with Ryan (Kerr Smith). In her vows, she explained her decision by echoing what her now legal daughter Lux (Britt Robertson) said about choices: "It's a choice you make everyday: who you want to be, who you want to be with."
The way Lux put it was more succinct: "It's not the feelings you have for people that matter, it's what you choose to do with them."
But just when things were going smoothly, Baze barged in through the door, 10 seconds shy of actually stopping the ceremony, with a helpless look in his face. The air was tense and everyone was exchanging nervous what-the-hell-is-going-on glances, so Cate decided to drill down her point about choices, kissing Ryan while Baze looked on, miserably.
We're not sure how the numbers of Cate-Baze and Cate-Ryan shippers measure up, but the finale, while it handed Ryan the proverbial trophy, gave Cate-Baze shippers a lot to hope for, too. If it were any other women, all the pre-wedding Baze-related doubts would have been enough to cancel the wedding, or at least postpone it until such time when all the issues are resolved.
Can
Life Unexpected really end on that note?
