About 75 percent of
Kat Von D's body is covered with tattoos, but this doesn't mean the
LA Ink star has had enough of the body art.
"This is going to be a lifelong project, I think I'm gonna continue getting tattooed until I have a full body suit,” Von D said during her appearance on
Late Night with David Letterman on September 12. The 25-year-old tattoo artist also talked about the history of her tattoos, her family's reaction to her heavily-inked body and living in Miami.
Kat Von D first rose to fame when she appeared in
LA Ink's parent series,
Miami Ink. She spent two seasons on the show, after which she moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles and opened her own tattoo shop, High Voltage Tattoo.
“[Miami] wasn't really my bag,” Von D told Letterman, adding that she “would fly out to LA, to my home, every weekend or so.”
When asked if there are any tattoos that she regrets having done, Von D said, “No not really… even having my exes names and stuff.. there's no landmarks in time... so I don't really regret very much.”
Kat Von D received her first tattoo at the tender age of 14, and has since been quite passionate about body art. She is well-known for her affinity for black and white portraiture, and has inked a variety of high-profile clients, many of whom have appeared on
LA Ink.
Apart from enjoying the fruits of her labor from
LA Ink and her tattoo shop, Kat Von D is also very happy with her new beau. Last month, she confirmed reports of her divorce from Oliver Peck on her official fan club site, and now claims she has fallen in love once again, this time with Whitestarr drummer, Alex “Orbi” Orbison.
“I wouldn't know how else to start this but by saying, [I] am officially in love. I've been in love 3 times before, but not like this,” Kat Von D wrote on her MySpace blog.
Von D met Orbi through a mutual friend. Their initial communication was restricted to text messages and centered mainly on the tattoo that Orbi wanted to get done. It wasn't until after
LA Ink premiered that the two met in person.
“I'm blown away the minute he walks in the door,” Kat Von D said, describing the first time she saw Orbi. “He is my match, in every way.”
