It's day 38, and the Pioneers of Bonanza City find out that the Job Board has been destroyed. Consequently, the children are forced to go about running the town without their defined responsibilities and tasks to guide them. It is up to them to make sure the city does not deteriorate, and as the days wear on, an unlikely hero emerges.
In addition, the Pioneers must come together for the final three challenges. Each challenge that they complete will earn them a special reward – a Gold Star worth $50,000 to be given to the Pioneer who has made the most contributions to Bonanza City in 40 Days.
Finally, all the Pioneers are reduced to tears when they learn about a devastating surprise just before heading back to their families and leaving Bonanza City forever.
While the first season of
Kid Nation is set to wrap up next month, no official statements have been made by the network regarding a renewal. However, casting for the potential second season began as early as August, with the network accepting applications until early last month.
Although
Kid Nation has received a lot of criticism for its
Lord-of-the-Flies-esque concept, it has managed to capture the attention of young viewers, earning a 2.3/08 rating/share among children 6-11 and 1.7/06 among children 2-11 last week. It also averaged a 2.7/07 among adults 25-54 and 2.4/07 among adults 18-49.
