High School Musical: Zac Efron to be Set on 'Fire'
Here's another new project from your favorite Wildcat, High School Musical star Zac Efron.  Instead of inundating you with puns and references to flames and such, let's just get right down to it.  The 22-year-old actor will be starring in the movie adaptation of the comic book Fire, in addition to being the executive producer for it.

Deadline Hollywood has reported that Zac Efron will be playing a college student who gets recruited by the CIA, later realizing that he's merely being trained as an expendable agent.  The graphic novel Fire was written by Brian Michael Bendis and was published by Image Comics, and the thriller seems to have the star hooked.

The screenplay will also be written by Bendis, who is best known for his comic book creation "Ultimate Spider-Man".  Apparently, he worked with the High School Musical actor to find a studio willing to accept their proposal.  The project finally got picked up by Universal, and Fire is definitely a go.

Neal Moritz and Dave Engel were tapped as producers, with Alchemy Entertainment's Jason Barrett and Efron as executive producers.  As for the director, it looks like they're still shopping around for one.  Maybe Bendis could work things out too, or maybe the High School Musical star himself if he wants another title to his list of credentials.

With that, he's already bagged even more projects for his career.  He's made a deal with Warner Bros. for some sci-fi, which means he really is trying to break loose of his Disney heartthrob image.

The report goes on to say that Zac Efron's involved in a pitch from writers Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski, which is similar to Back to the Future.  The second project he has is Algorithm, produced by Nick Stoller who directed Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  Efron will also be the executive producer for it.

Seems like he's come a really long way from High School Musical, even though the Disney franchise is what we'll remember him for.  Well, at least Zac Efron is trying.  And it certainly is something to keep him busy.
