Don’t get too attached to the name,
High School Musical: Summer Session. When ABC released some information about the upcoming reality competition series, they said that it was just a working title. Might I suggest,
High School Musical: Bop To The Top? Well, I liked it! This week, Nick Lachey was named the host of the new television show. Lachey is an ideal host, having been part of a successful boy band that won over millions of fans in the late 1990s. Last year, he won NBC’s
Clash of The Choirs and wrote an original song for the television movie,
Oprah Winfrey Presents: Mitch Albom’s For One More Day.

High School Musical: Summer Session (working title) will debut on Sunday, July 20th at 8pm ET. The show will run one hour episodes on Sunday and Monday nights for three weeks then switch over to Mondays only through mid-September. Producers of the show are looking for contestants who fit the High School Musical mold: the athlete who loves to sing, the shy girl who longs to be in the spotlight, and the queen of her drama club. Young adults age 16-22 are eligible to try out through two open casting calls. The panel of judges and a grand prize have yet to be announced.
Normally, reality shows stop in several cities nationwide to find the right people for their cast.
High School Musical has opted for two epic casting calls in Southern California and Orlando, Florida. The audition at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will take place on May 7th while California has yet to be assigned an audition date. In addition, talent scouts have been searching all over the country for potential candidates for the show. Those lucky few will be brought to the final audition to fight for a spot on the show.
The show is produced by are Jay Blumenfeld and Tony Marsh, of the company, The Jay and Tony Show. They have previously worked on
Here Comes The Newleyweds and
The Chelsea Handler Show.
