Previously on Heroes: Peter and Angela went on the run from Danko’s agents, Nathan swept up Claire after both their secrets came to light, and Sylar left Danko a “present” in the form of Doyle, the pathological puppeteer.

Nathan and Claire are in hiding in Mexico. Now that Danko knows about Nathan’s power, Claire’s free pass is up. They get a room in a hotel, but have almost no money. Claire is clearly uncomfortable with him, and she decides to take a walk, saying she’ll meet him at the cantina.

Angela and Peter are also in hiding. Peter says he saved her because he wants answers, but she says she doesn’t have many, and she’s looking for some of her own. She asked him to take her to a cathedral “where she’s supposed to be.” It immediately starts to downpour as they run inside.

Danko shows up at a house where three of his agents have been killed. A surviving agent says he didn’t see anything, and vomits, clearly horrified and shocked by the murders. He sent them after a man names James Martin, whose ability is unknown. HRG tells Danko he shouldn’t send his men in blind, accusing him of “cutting corners” dangerously. Danko snaps back that HRG hasn’t been doing so hot either; he let Rebel slip through his fingers. Danko gets into his car to have a cigarette, and Sylar’s sitting in the back. “Did you get my gifts?” he asks. Sylar tells Danko that they both want the same thing, and he thinks they should pool their resources. “You’re in way over your head,” Sylar says. “I can help you. I can find the guy who killed your agents.” Danko pulls his gun, but Sylar is gone.

Back in Building 26, Danko tells his agents that no one sleeps until James Martin is caught, so their colleagues didn’t die in vain. HRG tells Danko he should use tactics that are familiar to him from his days leading counter-insurgency attacks. He needs to co-opt the native population and manipulate them. HRG says he has reason to believe Sylar is in Washington D.C., but Danko says he wants HRG on a different assignment—Angela.

Claire walks into the cantina with cash. Nathan asks how she got it, and she says she sold both her kidneys. Twice. Actually, she sold a necklace from her dad at a pawnshop. Nathan senses Claire’s coldness, and wants gratitude for saving her. She asks why he ever gave her a free pass, and he says he had his reasons. He then approaches a group of American frat guys in the cantina and challenges them to a drinking game: $100 each, shots of tequila, last one standing wins.

Peter walks into the cathedral and sees Angela sitting there. She can’t sleep, and she needs to dream to see what they should do. The sleep has to be natural for her to receive visions, and she hasn’t slept in days. She came to the cathedral to find peace—it’s where she was married, where Peter’s communion was, and where her mother was buried. She blames herself for ruining their family.

Jenkins (the sick agent) comes up to Danko and shakes his hand, saying that his speech about catching Martin was inspirational. A phone begins to ring, and Danko finds a cell phone sitting on a cardboard box by his desk. He answers as he shoos Jenkins out of the room. It’s Sylar, and he’s who also snuck the box and cell phone inside. Sylar says Danko needs his help, because there’s another body on the top of his building. He proves it: Danko opens the box. Inside it’s a head—Jenkins’s head. Martin is a shape-shifter, and he was just inside Danko’s office. Danko runs out of the room after him. The man runs through the parking garage, and his body contorts into someone else as he does. Danko runs out into the street in the pouring rain, but are too many people around to find the shape-shifter.
