Psych is getting the Bollywood treatment when the series returns for its fourth season on the USA network. Sendhil Ramamurthy, who plays Mohinder Suresh on Heroes---his biggest role yet, has signed on to join the cast of Psych in at least one installment. Evidently, Ramamurthy and Psych director Jay Chandrasekhar are cousins, and they are both appearing in an episode entitled "Bollywood Homicide."
According to E! online, which first reported the news, the Heroes actor will play Raj, "a young man who believes that the firstborn in each generation of his family is cursed--a belief reinforced by the fact that bad things keep happening to all of his girlfriends."
Aside from playing an Indian geneticist on
Heroes, Ramamurthy has appeared on shows such as
Ellen, Casualty, Guiding Light, Ultimate Force, Grey's Anatomy, and
Numb3rs. In the big screen, he has worked in films such as
Thanks to Gravity, Orient Express, Blind Dating, and
Little India. He is currently working on
Lena on the Seventh Day and
It's a Wonderful Afterlife, which hit theaters later this year and in 2010 respectively.
Chandrasekhar, on the other hand, plays Jay, "Raj's cousin who is directing a Bollywood-style play at the local theater and engaged to be married." The real Jay is reportedly directing the episode just as his fictional counterpart is directing the local theater's Bollywood project.
The rest of the episode finds Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) on the case trying to get to the bottom of the curse or who's going after Raj's girlfriends.
Tired of Sendhil Ramamurthy voiceovers as Mohinder Suresh on
Heroes? Perhaps he'll be less annoying when he appears on
Psych. Check him out when "Bollywood Homicide" airs tentatively on August 28. Meanwhile, fans can catch the new season of
Psych when it returns on Friday, August 7 at 10pm.
