TNT's newest medical drama series,
Heartland, is based on the high-stakes world of heart-transplant surgery. The pilot, which premiered on June 18, is produced by Warner Horizon Television.
Heartland features an organ transplant surgeon who has dedicated his life to save lives, even at the cost of his relationships, which include his ex-wife. The former couple must now work past their differences as they face the pressures of their job while working in the same hospital.

Leading
Heartland is actor
Treat Williams who stars as Nathaniel Grant. He plays a devoted and overworked organ transplant surgeon and former husband to Kate Armstrong. Williams is best known for starring on the drama series
Everwood. He has also appeared on
Brothers and Sisters, and has worked in films like
Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and
Hair.
Playing the role of Nathaniel’s ex-wife Kate Armstrong is actress
Kari Matchett. Her character works as an organ-recovery coordinator who also counsels the survivors and loved ones of those who have donated organs. Armstrong is a Gemini award-winning actress who has previously appeared on
24, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and on
Invasion.
Other doctors on the show include
Rockmond Dunbar, popularly known for his role on
Soul Food and on
Prison Break as C-Note,
Chris William Martin as Simon Griffith, actor who appeared on
Felicity,
The L Word, and
Tom Stone, and
Dabney Coleman as Bart Jacobs, credited for films like
Tootsie, Inspector Gadget, and
You’ve Got Mail.
In addition, the show also features
Morena Baccarin as Jessica Kivala, and
Danielle Nicolet as Mary Singletary, as the nurses of the hospital.
